Today I’m excited to welcome Julie Arduini as she shares about the story she wrote with her daughter, Hannah.
I thought I had a writing schedule planned out for the next couple years when God stepped in and introduced a new series. I just finished my Surrendering Time contemporary romance series and was plotting the Surrendering Opinions series when I was reflecting on our daughter’s first year as a junior high student.
We knew the transition would be bumpy as the middle school years are hard under normal circumstances, and we were prepared for a bit more given her minor special needs issues. What took us by surprise were the people in her routine who instead of building her up with encouragement, killed her confidence by tearing her down through words and choices. Add some bullying situations and we were just done with the school year.
Once summer started, I sat her down and we talked about it. It was important to me that as hard as it was, we choose to be better, not bitter, and look forward to what was ahead. As we shared, Hannah talked about how she wished she could help girls avoid the kind of year she had. Our chat continued, and what unfolded was a story. I was so impressed I told her I’d write it if she kept plotting.
She plotted a three-book series.
Hannah not only plotted the series, but created the characters, oversaw my writing and cover design.
You’re Beautiful is the first, and it features a group of junior high girls who join a group of women to form a mentoring ministry called Linked. Each book will feature a girl and a mentor who will separately believe a lie about themselves. Our goal is to encourage readers of all ages to find freedom through surrender in Christ.
It’s not what I expected, but God gave a beautiful disruption.
About the Book:
You’re Beautiful by Hannah Arduini & Julie Arduini
Hayley Atkinson withdraws from her friends and new opportunities with the new mentoring group, Linked, after she is told a lie that she believes is true about herself. Sabrina Wayson is a mentor in Linked who feels she can’t help encourage girls because she’s struggling as much as they are. Can they surrender the lies and find freedom?
